New governor of FEIC Xavier Prats, doctor honoris causa at the URV

Xavier Prats, a recently appointed governor of Fundació Escola Internacional del Camp, has been awarded doctor honoris causa by the Universitat Rovira i Virgili. The University has acknowledged his work as a senior official of the European Commission.


Prats is currently Special Advisor to Teach For All, a global non-profit organisation with the mission of expanding educational opportunities around the world. It is present in 48 countries and has reached ten million young people. 

Much of his career developed in the European Commission, where he held several positions until last September: Director General for Public Health and Food Safety between 2015 and 2018, Director General for Education and Culture of the EC between 2011 and 2015, dealing with culture, educational regulations, youth and sport, including Erasmus, Marie Curie and Creative Europe programmes. He was also director of Labour from 2017 to 2010 and Deputy Spokesman of President Jacques Delors, among others. Born in Tarragona, Prats graduated in Sociology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, and he studied Development of Cooperation at the International Centre des Hautes Études Méditerranéennes in París and  also European Studies at College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
